What makes Crescendo different?
Crescendo is Ballarat’s very own All-Abilities Choir! Traditional choirs often present various barriers to those who think or communicate differently, or have different physical needs and abilities. Our flexibility is what sets us apart from other choirs which may not be able to actively adapt to meet the needs and utilise the capibilities of each individual member. We adapt our pace and activities to suit our members, and we encourage members to participate in a way that’s comfortable for them. For some, this may mean joining in certain parts, using tools to engage in rhythm, having speaking parts or even non-verbal roles. We take the time to understand what you need to participate, to ensure no-one is left out or left behind. Whatever your abilities, we’ll find a role for you to shine - because we believe music is for everyone!

Who is it for?
Everyone is welcome at Crescendo! We ensure our choir is accessible for people with all kinds of disability including physical, cognitive, developmental or other conditions. There is no eligibility requirement, and we don’t ask for your personal health information.

This choir has particularly resonated with the neurodivergent community, and people living with mental health conditions. Crescendo is a special space where you can be your authentic self - no masking required - and build connections with others.

We warmly welcome carers, loved ones, and anyone passionate about the disability community.

And some of our members don’t identify as having disability - they just enjoy the warm, relaxed environment!

When?

Crescendo runs every Thursday afternoon at St Peter’s Hall.
We meet for a cuppa and a chat at 3pm, and start singing at 3:30pm. We continue to meet every Thursday throughout school holiday periods.

How much?
Our standard price is $25 per week.
Many of our members choose to use their NDIS or other special funding sources to pay this.
We understand that this is not managable for many people, and we are committed to ensuring no one misses out due to cost. We can offer various discounts and flexible options for people experiencing financial hardship. No judgement - we get it, and we want you there! Just get in touch and ask.

You can join us at any time of the year, and pay only for the sessions you attend - no upfront term fees.

For Children - Melody Makers

An all abilities choir for children is in the works - watch this space!

It’s important for children with all kinds of disability to have safe spaces to be accepted and shine! This includes children with ADHD, ASD, and mental health conditions. Melody Makers incorporates a variety of rhythm and movement activities into a fun music program.

We are currently taking expressions of interest so that we can contact families when Melody Makers is up and running!
